Discover Kayak has classes for the beginner to the advanced paddler taught by American Canoe Association instructors. With a large fleet of Recreational, Sit-on-Top and Touring kayaks we have the right boat, paddle and lifejacket for you to maximize the fun and safety in your experience. Classes are held in the Dallas-Ft.Worth and on Galveston Island.
A class with Discover Kayak with help you paddle in safety and with proper strokes, which will prevent injury and help you paddle further with less effort . The information presented and our diverse fleet of kayaks will allow you to choose the right kayak and gear the first time, saving you time and money. Our line up of classes can take your skills as far as you want to go at your pace.
Classes are held at Lake Grapevine and Lake Arlington in parks with clean restrooms and sand / gravel beaches. We maintain a one to five Instructor to student ratio as recommended by the ACA. Discover Kayak classes are taught exclusively by ACA certified instructors.

Kayak Basics
No experience necessary!
This fun three hour class covers 6 basic strokes, safety, how to get back in your kayak with a partner if you fall out, and general kayaking knowledge. You'll also see the difference between boats, paddles and how to transport and carry boats. In a few of hours you'll have more confidence and skill then you imagined you would ever have in a kayak.

EMERGING FROM A KAYAK ROLL
Wednesday Practice and Paddle Sessions
Once you have taken a lesson with Discover Kayak how do you remember all that stuff ! We want you to get the practice you need. Come out every Wednesday evening to Meadowmere Park, Lake Grapevine from 5-8pm to practice with a certified instructor. This has been a very popular program with 10-15 paddlers a week. Past students of Discover Kayak can rent a boat for $20, non-students, $30, for the evening, it's free for past students with their own boats.

Rough Water- Surf Skills
There is nothing more thrilling then a little rough water.As a paddler advances their skills, this type of paddling appeals to the thrill seakers.
The class is conducted at San Luis Pass and Surfside Beach on Galveston Island. Class limit is 5 with 2 instructors
Cost : $250 Dates 2013: May 18-19, June 1-2nd

The Kayak Roll
ACA certified instruction
The kayak roll is not a advanced skill, it is a skill that can be added at any stage in a paddler's progression of learning. With our three step process on the surface you will build the muscle memory necessary to roll before you try underwater, eliminating a lot of the dunking. With a roll, you will find you will advance you're skills quickly because you won't worry about capsizing, it's also a great way to cool down in Texas. Discover Kayak has a 85% success rate in the first two hour session, 100% in the follow-up when necessary. You may return for follow ups as much as needed, no extra charge.
Maximun 2 students per session, usually one on one.

Sunday Tours
Discover Kayak conducts 2-hour tours suitable for the all skill levels or no experience (we'll talk you through it). We will tour Lake Grapevine near Meadowmere Park investigating the coves and wildlife.
All gear included- please book in advance
Times: 10am, 1pm and 4pm
Cost: $30 Adults $20 Children 12-17
SWIM BREAK
Advancing Kayak Skills Workshop
Instead of the Intermediate and Advanced classes, Discover Kayak has found it more effective to teach advanced skills in 3-hour coaching sessions.The result is better retention and less frustration! Choose when you want to attend and how often. With each session you will gain new skills to continue practice. Max 5 students per class.
You can use your own kayak or choose any of the high quality boats available from Discover Kayak.

Become a Certified Instructor

Boy Scout Kayak Merit Badge
Discover Kayak can train up to 15 scouts at time with a 1 to 5 ratio of Instructor to Student. This is a all day kayak camp that can be held at a lake of your troops choosing or one we suggest. Please call for more details.
