Discover Kayak offers classes for the beginner to the advanced paddler taught by American Canoe Association instructors. With a large fleet of Recreational, Fishing / Sit-on-Top, Whitewater and Touring Kayaks we have the right boat, paddle and life jacket for you to maximize the fun and safety in your experience.
A class with Discover Kayak will help you paddle in safety and with the proper strokes, which will prevent injury and help you paddle further with less effort . The information presented and our diverse fleet of kayaks will allow you to choose the right kayak and gear the first time, saving you time and money.
Classes are held at Lake Grapevine in Meadowmere Park and Lake Arlington, Richard Simpson Park. Both parks have clean restrooms and sand / gravel beaches. We maintain a one to five Instructor to student ratio as recommended by the American Canoe Association. Discover Kayak classes are taught exclusively by ACA certified instructors.

Friday Night Fireworks Show
Every Friday from Memorial Day thru Labor Day the city of Grapevine puts on a spectacular fireworks show and Discover Kayak has front row seats!
We depart from Rockledge Park at 7pm for a sunset paddle and return at 9pm to our reserved table and a layout of food to watch the fireworks. What a great family or date night!
All gear provided, we provide soft drinks, water, gatorade, fruit and snacks.
We suggest you make you reservation 2 weeks ahead as these tours filled quickly last year.

If you are serious about becoming a skilled, independent kayaker and group leader, you might consider Kayak College.
This is a self paced package of lessons, practice sessions and trips. In one season you can go from a non-kayaker to a pro!
When you are proficient at all skills included in Kayak College you will qualify as a Level 3-4 Personal Skills Award from the American Canoe Association. For a additional $150 you can mentor as a instructor and receive a Level 1 Instructor certification from the ACA.

Ten Wednesday Practice Sessions will give you the practice and coaching needed in between lessons to gain proficiency in newly learned skills before moving on to the next level. (a $200 value)

This fun three hour class covers 6 basic strokes, safety, how to get back in your kayak with a partner if you fall out, and general kayaking knowledge. Take your skills to the next level
In this six hour class we will build on the skills from Kayak Basics. We will add seven more strokes including; stern rudder, side slip, draw on the move, hanging draw, bow rudder, reverse paddling and low brace turn.
We will also cover bracing ( the use of your paddle and body to stay upright ), self rescue and team rescues.
Bring lunch and plenty of water/hydration drinks for this course.

After completing Kayak Basics and Intermediate Kayaking there is still more to learn!
In Advanced Kayaking we will add a technique called edging and leaning to all of our strokes. By doing this we will improve your efficiency and control in all conditions. You will find that you can turn the longer, fast boats with ease.
On shore the class will examine what goes into a prepared kayakers gear choices, use of map and compass and emergency strategies.
Lastly we will practice "speed rescues" , towing and group leadership.
This is a 8 hour course. Bring lunch and snacks.

The kayak roll is not a advanced skill, it is a skill that can be added at any stage in a paddler's progression of learning. With our three step process on the surface you will build the muscle memory necessary to roll before you try underwater, eliminating a lot of the dunking. With a roll, you will find you will advance you're skills quickly because you won't worry about capsizing, it's also a great way to cool down in Texas. Discover Kayak has a 90% success rate in the first two hour session, 100% in the follow-up when necessary. You may return for follow ups as much as needed, no extra charge !

Discover Kayak offers private lessons with Texas only American Canoe Association Level 4 Coastal Instructor. With a private lesson you can advance your skills in a one on one setting.
Available Monday-Friday 8am-7pm for whatever period of time you with. Cost $35 per hour, Min. 2 hours
Rough Water Training- Galveston
San Luis Pass on Galveston Island in the best training ground in the state for open water skills with it's currents, tides, sand bars and surf.
We will apply all the flat water skills you have developed to the dynamic ocean environment in and around San Luis Pass. A very personal learning experience is achieved by having a least 2 instructors with a max of 5 students insuring safety and knowledge.
Class length is two days, Saturday and a Sunday, 8-5pm
Day One: Surf Zone Skills, Bracing and open water rescue.
Day Two: Open Water skills in San Luis Pass.
Cost: $250 for two days instruction.
Accommodations are up to students. Hotels available for about $70 per night and Beach Camping is free!

San Marcos White Water Trip
Instead of the paddling the surf on the Gulf your interested in Whitewater. Discover Kayak has you covered.
The San Marcus River is 72 degrees and a steady flow year round making it a perfect training ground for the first time whitewater paddler. We will spend two days on the river.
The first day will be in the city water park that features three man made "drops" where you can learn the basics of Whitewater in a controlled setting. Day two we will take a run down the river using the skills from day one. In addition we will learn to read the river, scout rapids and choose portage.
Classes are held on a Monday and Tues to avoid the weekend crowds
